The client

A metropolitan automatic gate specialist: 20+ years in the trade, residential and commercial, repairs and installations across every major motor brand. A genuine local operator with a strong reputation, the kind of business that should own local search but was being held back by an ageing website.

The situation

The website was outdated and underperforming. It looked dated, it was painful to update, and under the surface it was technically broken, which meant far fewer buyers could find and contact the business. For a call-out business that lives on inbound enquiries, that's fewer phone calls every week. The owner brought us in to find out why and fix it, fast.

The diagnosis

A full technical and content audit found a stack of compounding issues:

  • Duplicate title tags, meta descriptions and large volumes of duplicate content
  • Multiple pages competing with identical headings and titles
  • No structured data, poor internal linking, slow load times failing Core Web Vitals
  • Thin content on key pages and a weak, partly spammy backlink profile
  • A bare, under-optimised Google Business Profile
  • Conflicting business details across the web, missing from key directories

In plain terms: technically fragile, thin on content, weak on authority, and sending Google mixed signals about who and where the business was.

The work

  • Rebuilt the site from the ground up. Fast, mobile-first, passing Core Web Vitals, presenting the business as the premium operator it actually is. Conversions lifted immediately, and the phone became trackable for the first time.
  • Built a content roadmap to own the category and position the business as the authority on gate repair in its market.
  • Fixed the off-site signals: business details cleaned up across the web, citations built in the directories that matter, a legitimate backlink profile rebuilt.
  • Optimised the Google Business Profile for local-pack visibility.

The results

Enquiries more than doubled, from 435 to 878 a year (+102%). Same business, same services, twice the people reaching out. The rebuild made the phone trackable for the first time, recording 2,284 click-to-call actions in a year; add the forms and quote requests and that's over 3,000 direct contacts the business can now see and measure. The site reached position 1 for its core commercial keywords across repairs and installation.

Sustained, not a temporary spike

This wasn't a one-month bump that faded. Organic search kept climbing after the first year, reaching 25,009 annual sessions, more than five times the starting point, and still growing. Nobody can promise future traffic, but a properly built foundation is why growth like this holds instead of washing away with the next algorithm update.

A twentyfold increase in AI referrals

As customers started asking AI tools who to call, the site began earning citations in those answers: referrals from ChatGPT and Perplexity grew from under 10 a year to over 200. That's the channel most agencies haven't touched yet, arriving on a foundation built to catch it.

What that's worth in business terms

Traffic is nice. Booked jobs pay the bills. At the client's average job value of around $1,500, even a conservative one-in-five enquiries converting to work represents over $260,000 a year in new business from website enquiries alone, before counting the 2,284 tracked phone calls.

Illustrative, using a deliberately conservative conversion estimate. The real figure depends on close rate, but the direction isn't in question: twice the enquiries at this job value is a step change in revenue.

If your enquiries have dried up

Most established businesses have a reputation and real customers, but an ageing or broken web presence quietly costing them calls. That's a fixable problem, and it's the one we solve: diagnose what's actually holding the site back, rebuild the foundation, and turn visibility into enquiries and booked jobs.
